Symrise, Inc.,
Fine Fragrance Creative/Sales Studio 505 Park Avenue, New York, New York
Client Goals
Symrise, a major fine fragrance company, desired the atmosphere of their new Creative Studio to be “funky in a sophisticated way,” and an “edgy downtown feel in midtown.” They requested the space to be “loft-like, with few partitions to facilitate interaction of perfumers and customers.” Deep, dark floor plates with low floor-to-floor heights needed to be addressed. The $3.2-million renovation of floors 15 and 16 included offices for perfumers, evaluators, sales/marketing, conference room, reception area with product display, perfumers’ laboratory, dining room, kitchen, and raw creative space for multi-media presentations.
Architectural Solution
Creative use of glass partitions with partial frosting created both openness and privacy. Low ceiling heights were maximized by integrating exposed ceiling beams, ductwork and uplighting, and minimizing suspended ceilings. A palette of modern and organic materials, both conventional and unconventional, contemporary furniture, and bold use of the Symrise colors define the programmatic areas.
