100 United Nations Plaza Tower New York, New York
Der Scutt, Design Architect
Located in an international landmark environment, this distinctive 52-story residential condominium overlooks the formal gardens and flags of the United Nations. Breathtaking views of the East River and Beekman Place enhance the vista from all the easterly apartments. To the west, the glorious New York skyline of midtown Manhattan is unequalled in its exciting profile. The elegant drive-in porte-cochère entrance to the lobby adjoins a multi-level 10,000-square-foot landscaped garden.
The Tower’s architecture is special and distinctively different. The south facade includes an added amenity of elegant triangular balconies, contributing to the residential spirit of the building. The large windows give the building’s external appearance a sense of order while maximizing the views for the occupants. Full-width terraces provide an environment for sunlight and shade. Perhaps the most remarkable characteristic of the building is the distinctive top. A pyramid of terraced penthouses crowns the building. The shape gives the building an immediately identifiable image. These penthouse apartments realize considerable added sales revenues to the project developer. The lobby was designed with rich materials including fabric, bronze, marble, and wood.
The project was a successful collaboration between Der Scutt Architect (the design architect) and Schuman-Lichtenstein-Claman-Efron Architects (the base building architect of record).
